Welcome to the School District of Oakfield
On January 13, 2014 the Oakfield School Board approved the resolution for a referendum election on April 1, 2014. The ballot will read as follows:
BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of the School District of Oakfield, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, that the revenues included in the School District budget be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $1,000,000 a year for the 2014-2015 school year through the 2016-2017 school year, and by $1,200,000 a year for the 2017-2018 school year through the 2019-2020 school year, for non-recurring purposes consisting of operating expenses.
The Oakfield School District worked with a company called School Perceptions to conduct a survey this fall where 461 individuals responded. According to School Perceptions, this was the highest percentage of responders to a school district referendum survey in the state of Wisconsin! That indicates the concern you have for this community and shows the importance of our referendum this spring. The survey indicated that 67% of all responders and 87% of responders who are parents want the district to maintain our current programs and services without making additional decreases or reductions.
Our school board carefully studied the responses of the community members and considered the serious need to maintain a high quality, strong performing school district. The Oakfield School District is currently under a $700,000 referendum which will expire at the end of the 2013-2014 school year. The board made the decision to present a referendum of $1,000,000 each year for the period of three years, then $1,200,000 each year for the next three years. This is a six year referendum that provides the district with financial support to maintain programming and will provide the staff and community with stability, certainty, and continuity. It will support efforts to retain high quality staff, allow our educators to focus on the continued process for academic success, and protect our class sizes.
This is a difficult time with funding for most school districts in Wisconsin. I am continually moved by the support and dedication that exists in this community for our students by community members, parents, and staff. We are all in this together - please come out to the many events that will be provided to hear information, share your insights, and prepare for your vote in April. Keep Oak Pride Alive!
