My name is Jeremy Adolphson, and I am the newest English Language Arts teacher at Oakfield High School. I grew up in Northern Illinois, and was a first-generation college graduate. I earned my Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I have had almost twenty years of teaching experience within higher education, and I am very excited to bring that knowledge into the classroom this year. I define student success when individuals take ownership of their education – their writing, speaking, and overall quest for knowledge. In order to create such a space, I draw upon popular culture, media, film, and music to put into conversation an academic perspective within one's everyday life, and I encourage my students to create their own narratives based on their lived experiences. Outside of the classroom, I am an avid fisherman – from catching walleye, pike, and perch in the U.P at my wife’s family camp, I also enjoy fishing salmon out of Algoma with my father-in-law. Finally, I am a big proponent of collecting and enjoying physical media (I’m always happy to chat about films, vinyl, video games, comic books, and fantasy novels with my students and colleagues). I look forward to working with you and being a part of the Mighty Oaks community!
