Performance Requirements:
There will be required performances throughout the year including but not limited to: varsity football and basketball pep band performances, concerts, and the Memorial Day celebration. Dressy clothing will be worn for the school concerts. Uniform jackets and blue jeans will be worn for parade and pep-type performances. *A calendar is on the back of this page.
Lessons:
Lessons include graded skills and/or knowledge work. This is a required part of band since students receive some instruction based on their instrument choice and abilities. Students will be in a small group lesson once per week. LESSON CALENDARS will be given every month.
Course Evaluation and Grading:
Grades will be based on knowledge and performance of the music standards – create, respond, perform, and connect. Written and playing assignments will be given to assess the standards.
Students are expected to attend performances and turn work in on time. Missing performances and assignments will warrant a ZERO in the gradebook and may result in specific requests for Oakrichment and/or loss of privileges (including co-curricular athletics and activities) until they are complete.
Additional Opportunities:
Jazz Band is an extra-curricular group comprised of dedicated students. Jazz Band will meet on Wednesday OR Thursday mornings at 7:00 a.m. Students are eligible to earn a pin for letter jackets if attending the majority of rehearsals and performing in all concerts.
Solo and Ensemble Festival is organized to encourage individual growth through group or solo performances. I will be strongly encouraging students to work on one or some pieces of music for this opportunity. Our “band” event is scheduled on Saturday, February 17th at Wayland Academy in Bever Dam!
